Itinerary

Thursday June 18th

Benvenuti a casa tutti.  Welcome home, everyone. Kurt and Carl will pick you up at the Florence airport and whisk you away to our stunning place In downtown Florence. It is just steps away from the Arno river and the Ponte Vecchio. After you relax and settle in your esteemed hosts will guide you a rooftop restaurant for your first wonderful meal. Beginning with an Aperol Spritz and ending with a Vin Santo &Cartucci. Then we’ll take “una passeggiata” a stroll, to the Palazzo Vecchio and our first of many gelati

Friday June 19th

Today is a busy day with lots of history and with lots of sights to see. We’ll visit the Baptistry, the Duomo, (and if you’re up for it we’ll climb the 463 steps to the top), We will take a ride on the Arno River in our own gondola.  After dressing for dinner we’ll head out to Piazza Del Vino, where every course is paired with the perfect wine.

Saturday June 20th

After Breakfast we’ll wander to the world famous L’Accadamia where Michelangelo’s “David” is on display amidst many other Renaissance masterpieces.  Afterwards you are free to wander and shop in places like the New Market which is 500 years old. There is an optional treasure hunt in the historic city center should you wish to test your deductive and puzzle skills and then for dinner at La Buchetta you might choose to have pasta prepared in a giant wheel of cheese at your table. Sunday June 21st      

Pack your bags, tutti. We’re going on a road trip.  After breakfast we head up into the beautiful Tuscan countryside to Vinci, Leonardo’s birthplace. There you will get a glimpse of life in a small town during the early renaissance for it hasn’t changed very much.  There we’ll visit a museum devoted to the life and work of the town’s most celebrated citizen. We will have lunch in our first winery stop Touring the vineyards and sampling their wares. After lunch we continue on to the medieval city of Lucca. Before dinner we’ll have an apperitivo and see a concert of some of Puccini’s masterpieces. Puccini lived and composed in this lovely town and you too will feel inspired to create here. 

Monday June 22nd

The city below you on the left and the mountains above you on the right.  That is our view as we bike ride on top of the famed walsl of lucca. It’s an easy ride around the city so there’s no reason to be intimidated. Or if you’d prefer, walk or just sit and people watch. You will be enthralled in any case. We’ll climb to the top of the Giunigi Tower for the best views of the city. Tonights gourmet feast will be created by us under the expert tutelage of a local chef with recipes you’ll be able to show off once you get home.  And If you can still walk after dinner and the day’s activities, we’ll head over to Piazza Anfiteatro for a musical treat and dancing. You’re going to sleep well tonight. 

Tuesday June 23rd

We’re going to take it easy today.  After a leisurely breakfast we’ll take a short half hour drive to Pisa. We’ll wander the streets (espresso, cornetti and gelato is sure to be involved) and take the requisite pictures at the leaning tower. . Next destination-the Medieval town of San Gimignano.  There we will have a walking tour of the city and then dine amongst the 13 remaining towers and be transported back to the Middle Ages. 

 Wednesday June 24th

This morning is yours to wander and shop. Get lost within the walls of this romantic historical city. It’s a walled town so you can’t get too lost. Or you might decide to be adventurous and hop on to a vespa and discover the countryside  After lunch we’ll head to a winery for a tasting of Tuscany’s finest wines and olive oils. After all the excitement of the day, we’ll dine at San Gimignano’s finest trattoria and then relax in the courtyard of our palazzo where minstrels will regal you with music and juggling. Dorme bene tutti. 

Thursday  June 25th

After breakfast we’ll say goodbye to the 13 towers and head to the Sacred city of Assisi where St Francis lived. But along the way, a special culinary treat. We will stop in Perugia and the Perugina Chocolate factory which began in 1907. Then we’ll head to Assisi and wander til Dinner. 

Friday June 26th

Rise and Shine travelers.  Early this morning we head to the Umbrian valley outside Assisi and then rise to 4000 feet above some of Italy’s most beautiful landscapes in a hot air balloon. This will be an unforgettable experience if you choose to do so. Then we’ll head to the oldest Italian winery Barone Ricasole. There we will taste and feast and learn all about the wines of the region. After a drive back to Florence we will head to the city’s art district and enjoy our last dinner at Cibreo Teatro del Sale. This will be a dinner and cabaret style show. It’s not for tourists so you won’t understand a word but you will be completely charmed none-the-less. 

Saturday June 27th

After a grand breakfast Kurt and Carl bid a fond farewell to our fellow travelers.  We hope your world is enriched with our last ten days together and that you have also fallen in love with this land for we care so much.  Buon viaggio, amici. We know you’ll be back.
