Monday. June 11th Lucca
Benvenuti a casa in Italia. Welcome home to Italy. Paolo and Carl will pick you up at the Pisa airport and whisk you away to our stunning place in the beautiful walled city of Lucca. Your esteemed hosts will prepare your first dinner as you relax and settle in. Then we’ll take “una passeggiata”; a stroll to the only circular piazza in Italy, Piazza Anfiteatro to our first of many gelatos

Tuesday June 12th Lucca
The city below you on the left and the mountains above you on the right. That is our view as we bike ride on top of the famed wall of lucca. It’s an easy, flat ride around the city so there’s no reason to be intimidated. Or if you’d prefer, walk or just sit and people watch at a cafe. You will be enthralled in any case. We’ll tour Lucca’s church built upon the ruins of a Roman temple, and shop for clothes and souvenirs along via Fillungo.

Wednesday. June 13th Cinque Terre
From Lucca we head up the coast to Cinque Terre a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces. We’ll go swimming and have a relaxing sunset yoga on the beach.

Thursday. June 14th Cinque Terre
Get your hiking shoes on, everyone, we’re going to the Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail which links the villages and offers sweeping sea vistas. You can go as far or as short as you wish. Then for dinner we head to a trattoria where they will turn out seafood specialties along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, pesto.

Friday. June 15th San Gimignano
We leave the shores of Cinque Terre and head south. We’ll stop in Pisa to take the requisite pictures at the leaning tower and have lunch. Then we’ll drive and enter the medieval town of San Gimignano. After settling in we will tour a nearby winery and have a tasting of wines and olive oil. Then we will dine amongst the 13 remaining towers and be transported back to the Middle Ages.

Saturday. June 16th San Gimignano
We will have breakfast at the villa while overlooking the Tuscan hills. This is a sight you will cherish for the rest of your lives. There are a lot of things to choose from today. San Gimignano has a tower torture museum… there is a beautiful church. There is a natural history museum. Climb the bell tower of the city’s tallest tower and see unparalleled views of the area. Or just sit at a cafe and indulge in what many people say is the best gelato in Italy. (well Carl says this) This afternoon is on your own and we will meet up for dinner.

Sunday. June 17th Florence.
After arriving in Florence and settling into our villa we’ll take you for a tour and a clandestine picnic lunch in the beautiful Boboli Gardens and then over to the Duomo. If you're up for it we’ll climb the 463 steps to the top and see the city as though from heaven.

Monday. June 18th Florence
Waking early we’re going to take to the water. Right after breakfast, we’re going to paddle and float up the Arno river toward the Ponte Vecchio. We’ll learn things about Florence that you can’t see from land and have an aperitivo from the shore. (it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.) then we’ll head to Florence’s famous outdoor market where we’ll by food for tonight's feast. The freshest and tastiest of produce is to be had right here. We’ll have lunch here as we’re shopping and and then head back to the villa for a nap. For dinner we’ll be making various Tuscan dishes with the help and instruction of local chefs. We’ll also learn to play “Scoppa” Italy’s national card game and watching a beautiful Italian movie filmed nearby. Rest up, my friends, you’re going to need your strength for tomorrow

Tuesday. June 19th Florence.
Today is a busy day with lots of walking, lots of history and with lots of sights to be seen. We’ll visit the Baptistry, the Pitti Palace, and see Michelangelo’s David in the Accademia. (Whew, I’m exhausted just writing about it) after dressing for dinner we’ll head out to a fabulous renaissance Banquet as our last dinner together.

Wednesday. June 20th Depart
After a grand breakfast Paolo and Carl wish a fond farewell to our fellow travelers as we drop you at the Florence airport. We hope your world is enriched with our last ten days together and that you have fallen equally in love with this land that we care so much for. Buon viaggio, amici. We know you’ll be back.

Life affirming trip it was, yes, hopefully not the last. I personally thought both of our guides did a great job balancing the varied needs of the motley crew as well as a fine balance between too much structure and not enough downtime. I personally didn’t care for the crypt, I literally was overwhelmed and nearly vomited, also the first church tour, stay was a bit lengthy. The impromptu visits to other places including the blue grotto were TOP NOTCH. I’m still digesting the history lessons and will be for months I think. I’m literally overwhelmed with the amount of places we visited and the things we learned. I enjoyed the local cuisine and cooking lessons and the private snow covered trip to cefalu from the farmhouse: impressive. I appreciated the translations and the kindness of each new person we met who suddenly “knew a guy”. I was enchanted with Touramina but the raw beauty of cefalu rivaled it. I did like the fun game scopa with the cards as gift and the flavorful handmade soap and lip balm. I didn’t think the carriage ride was necessary, as they are in every large tourist city. You pulled out the stops with the medieval banquet. Next time, please starve your participants for a day! All in all, I’d give it a 9.5 and yes, please leave some postcards up at the Greenwoode archery range or in Sir Ian’s tent😎chow. Oh… As to help learning the language, I thought we did a good job of miming, lol, and a few phrases here and there, but perhaps that should be the participants responsibility… The guides had enough

So, you are thinking of going on a Sicilian vacation. You have seen RenAdventures is offering a tour. You imagine the cheap dives you are going to get stuck at, you imagine the bed bugs you will haul home. They tout a trip around the island. Oh boy, you think, great, yeah just how I want to see Sicily…”Everybody on the bus, drive, drive, drive to get to something to see and then…Everybody off the bus! Here we have Capo d’orlando, ok everyone on the bus! on to the next place!” NOPE!!! Hold it right there! This is NOT THIS TOUR!
RenAdventures have developed the most absolutely incredibly amazing experience you will treasure the rest of your life! We had access to our tour guides before, during and after the trip! They were in contact with us along our journey over the pond as many of us were first time world travelers. Carl met us at the airport and from the very taxi ride the adventure was afoot! We stayed in beautiful Bed & Breakfast in Palermo, an extravagant hillside Villa in Taormina, a Villa in the country that was reminiscent of a hacienda and a stunning hotel in Cefalu. The accommodations were all first class! The people that ran them were so welcoming and kind, treating us like family and celebrating our holiday with us.
There is a lot of walking and it is so worth it! It builds the appetite and let me tell you, there is no more amazing food than what we enjoyed on that trip! We tried many new and exotic things we never dared to before! The group we traveled with were essentially strangers when we began but we all gave in to the joy of the experience and we shared meals with one another. Everyone would willingly pass their plates around the table to share and no one ever left a table hungry! There was wine with every afternoon and evening meal and it was spectacular!
We did travel by bus to all our destinations but it was the same bus with the same driver the whole time. That made for a very reassuring experience, even during the first snow storm in over 50 years in Sicily! I was incredibly frightened at the time but I realize it was my own insecurities as no one else was bothered by it but me. We were in good hands and I am thankful for them. The amazing sites we saw were extremely well chosen. There are so many wonderful things to see in these ancient cities and our intrepid guides found some of the greatest and some of the most obscure. A restaurant that you could watch the ocean under the glass floor and out the windows that overlooked the ocean at ocean level. Many beautiful churches and architecture in the cities. The mosaics and the temples.
Another wonderful part of the experience was when Carl, who has asked me about my family history and knew I was of Italian decent from Calabria, made sure to point it out to me so I could look across the channel to see the land of my ancestors. That meant the world to me! When we toured an old amphitheater, Paul made sure to show me again where it was so I could take a picture of it. They went out of their way to have some personal time with each of us. They were concerned with our experience and worked to ensure a wonderful time.
This is in no way your run of the mill tour trip. You may think, well, I am not a performer or part of the renaissance fair world so, I really won’t fit in. Well, let me tell you, my husband and I are not a part of the performers, owners or employees of the Ren world, we are merely people who have attended it at times. But, this amazing group of people, opened their hearts to us and included us and let us enjoy 10 glorious days with them. I have a great appreciation for them and I am in awe of all they do! They are all so very much fun and I would do it all again in a heartbeat! In fact, we are planning to join the Tuscany tour next June! Hope to see you there! Do it! You won’t regret it! This is truly a RenAdventure!

Tour guides, Carl and Paolo, did an excellent job with the tour to Florence and Tuscany in June. The lodging, transportation, meals, and activities were well organized and well thought out. My husband and I enjoyed Italy tremendously and would never have been able to plan such a visit so well on our own. Our Renadventures tour experience was truly magical and we look forward to participating in future Renadventure tours!!

Wow! What a fun trip. It was so nice to be able to explore such a beautiful country even though I didn’t speak the language. Paulo and Carl handled the hardest part of traveling to a country when you don’t speak the language- where are you going to stay and how are you going to get there? All our accommodations were top-notch and we traveled in comfort on a private chauffeured mini-bus. The destinations that they chose were beautiful, steeped in history and often had an exciting activity that we could participate in. The trip was a beautiful balance of taking in the culture through everything from architecture and museums, to hiking, rafting, biking and, of course, dining.

The experience of travel is not just about the destination- it’s also about the connections that you make along the way. The locals greeted us warmly and showed us real hospitality and our group of people traveling made great connections, too. We began as strangers and ended up friends. I even took away a couple of yoga tips that I learned from a fellow group member, Cherie Ferro (who’s now going to lead her own yoga trip!), that have helped me in my day to day life back home. I’m also making plans on reconnecting with several persons from our group later this year. Through photos, reminiscing and cherished memories, this experience will stay with me always.

My husband and I had never been to Italy and this tour proved to be the perfect way to see this beautiful country. Carl and Paolo arranged all of our accommodations, travel within the country and activities, which made for a super relaxing and stress free trip. We had time on our own as well as with the group, which was a great balance, but more often than not, we all wanted to be together. This was a definite extra special feature – getting to know everyone in our group and bonding. We had a group sharing experience of this amazing country and each of the cities we visited were unique and memorable in their own way. By the end it was a tearful good-bye with promises to all get together again. Carl and Paolo are warm and wonderful hosts to guide you (and they speak the language!). It’s a once in a lifetime trip that you will not forget!
